Team/Role Overview

The Banking Global Coverage Operational Risk Officer is a strategic professional who closely follows the latest trends in Financial Markets and Operational Risk for application within their role as Second Line of Defence challenger of Citi’s Banking businesses. This role will be primarily focused on Citi’s Corporate Bank business.

This position will be an integral member of a dedicated global team, requiring excellent communication and negotiation skills, often at a senior level. These developed communication and diplomacy skills are required to influence and challenge stakeholders on Banking’s Risk Assessments, Risk Remediation plans and adherence to Citi’s Operational Risk framework, policy, standards, and procedures.

The team is accountable for driving risk reduction through aiding identification of control weaknesses, oversight of plans to reduce risk within acceptable thresholds and provide forward looking thought leadership on risk management techniques and management of emerging risks.

The role is accountable for significant direct authoritative advice regarding the operational risks of the Banking business and implementation of the Operational Risk Framework.

What you’ll do

• Oversee the application and implementation of operational risk policies by the Banking Business; using technology and  governance processes to assess whether robust and effective solutions for minimising losses from failed internal processes, inadequate controls, and emerging risks drive risk mitigation.

• Independently assess risks and drive actions to address any root causes that persistently lead to operational risk losses by challenging both historical and proposed practices.

• Serves as a subject matter expert for Banking’s businesses and products in interaction with other second and third line of defence groups.

• Analyse effectiveness of Issue Management (KPI/KRI/Corrective Action Plans) launched by Banking.

• Participate in assessment of resolution steps to resolve transactional level escalations.

• Analyse scorecards/performance management tools designed to mitigate exposure (risk/financial/regulatory) to ensure Citi is operating within Risk Appetite.

• Escalate, where appropriate, any events and/or areas of disagreement to ensure agreed resolution paths are identified.

• Develop and maintain relationships across the Banking business and all lines of defence (globally and in country) to ensure transparency and effective communication of risk topics and changes in the internal and external business environment.

• Appropriately assess risk when reviewing New Activities Proposals, demonstrating consideration for the firm's Operational Risk, but also other non-financial risks as they may apply.

• Maintenance of a culture of compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.

What we’ll need from you

• Outstanding communication and influencing skills through all levels of the organisation and across all lines of defence, includes ability to effectively communicate complex topics to a broad audience including senior management.

• Exceptional relationship management skills; must be able to address and resolve conflict while maintaining relationships.

• Good knowledge of Banking Operational processes and technology platforms supporting the Business.

• Good knowledge of Operational Risk themes and market/regulatory trends

• Detailed oriented with analytical skills, as the role requires a large amount of data manipulation and presentation. Microsoft Office Tools.

• Bachelor’s/University degree preferred.
